Saving money in this economy

Saving money in this economy is a huge task for any small / large business or individual. We are cutting back here at home due to the recent lay off of my husband. Some hard decisions had to be made, which we did as a family.

The first thing we have done is cut down on some of the bills we have. Our power bill has seen a $30 decrease just by unplugging things we do not use on a regular basis and turning off the lights when leaving a room. We also switched to the new energy saving light bulbs (which cost more but saves in the long run). This has been hard to get used to doing but it is well worth it to us. Our power bill was never really high at around $130 a month. Now it is around $95 to $100 a month.

Cutting down on water usage was the easiest because we had already done that due to the severe draught here in South Carolina.

Now on to the Cable and Internet. Internet we have to have for my work and no one else supplies our area so we are stuck at paying around $50 a month but Cable is another story. Having hundreds of channels to choose from has been nice but savings must come first. We cut back by getting rid of all the channels we do not use. Our Cable bill was about $115.00 a month with on demand and now is around $60.

If you really look at your bills, you can find ways to save in all areas. These are just a few things we did. Stay tuned next week when I tell you how we save $300 a month grocery shopping without a single coupon. Do you have some more good ideas? Tell us how you have saved in this economy.
