Backing Projects Up

Published by Robin Green at 10:15 am under Freelance, Jobs, Work from home Edit This

Has anyone else out there been put at a stand still when the power goes out? Well I have been working from home for sometime now and I had to do without power yesterday due to storms that swept the area on Tuesday. I never really understood how much I would miss with just one day. Once logging back on I realized I had lost some work out there somewhere. I think maybe the Internet ate it but I cannot be sure. So I learned once again the hard way about backing things up thus the hot topic and tip for today. You never know when it can happen so the best advise is to always back up your work to disk. Luckily I only lost a few things that I have been working on this last 2 weeks and at least I still my resource’s to fall back on. Now all I have to do is rewrite what I had already written. So please to everyone out there back it up as often as you can. I would suggest you do it daily because you never know when this can happen to you.

Ever since I lost my info one day, I’m obsessive about saving now lol.

This is great advice. I’m a freelance writer, too, and last month my hard drive crashed. I was fortunate in that I only lost three stories that I was still working on, but as I backtracked and rewrote paragraphs that I’d already written, I was kicking myself for not saving often enough on my external hard drive.

By the way, I highly recommend the external drives. I keep mine plugged into my computer all the time, and try to save my active files on it at the end of every day.

And, yes, when the power goes out, I realize just how helpless I am without electricity. Can’t even get the electric garage door to open so I can escape somewhere where there might actually be power!
