Do-It-Yourself Laptop Projects
As a work from home mom (who is online much of the day) I decided I needed a laptop computer but was unwilling to pay hundreds or thousands for one. I found out that buying a used laptop was just as good as a new one, so I did.
The first thing you will want to consider when buying used is does it work, how well, what os it is using and how easy will it be to upgrade if need be. Well once again I went to my local library and found the perfect book to help me with all I needed to know. It is called Do-It-Yourself Laptop Projects by: Justin Jaffe and Brian Nadel put out by C/NET. Which C/NET is also another good place online to go for just about anything you need to know about computers and such. They can help you with projects such as os, memory, hard drive, and processor upgrades. You will be surprised at what you can do at home with less than $300.00. It also shows you how to turn your laptop into a home security system as well as so much more.
With those of us trying to save money I have to say this is one of the best ways to save a great deal at one time. If you have any suggestions for good books computer wise let us all know. New freelance job postings added today on the job postings page.

Another tip that may be useful, although is more expensive than your previous suggestion, is buy a mac. Mac’s in general are cheaper for the power you get, not to mention there shelve-life is a lot longer than the average PC.
Unless you are running very trade specific programs you will find that all the software you need is available to Mac.
When I purchased a laptop for my schooling getting a equivalent to my level of processing power in a PC would have cost me at least $2000 instead I payed only $900. Thus I made a trade-off less programs, although in my opinion better ones that you do have, for more reliability and lifetime. I plan on keeping my Mac book for at least 2 more years and have already had it for one. It’s still running wonderfully.
