How to keep cool while working in the south.
If you live anywhere near South Carolina, you know how hot it can get in the summer time here. This week alone it has been hovering right around 100 degrees.
My air-conditioner has been working overtime trying to keep it cool in my home work office. My husband who works for an HVAC company keeps our unit serviced, which is the first thing that you should do at least once a year. And change your filters often, with us we change them about once every 2 to 3 months. That will keep your unit running smoothly and save money and energy. We also have double windows which cuts down alot, however I have still found that during the hottest parts of the day I keep my curtains closed to prevent my air from running all day to keep me cool. I love the light in my home, but anything to save me a buck these days. I also use those light bulbs that simulate sunlight so that helps a great deal.
Remember trees are our friends, they are wonderful to shade us when working outside, so grab a glass of water often and take a break. Buy you a couple of ice packs from any discount store “the gel kind are best” and apply them to the back of your neck for about 5 minutes once an hour and you will notice your body temperature stays stable. This website has a few good tips.

I also leave my curtains shut when it’s very hot out so not so much heat seeps through. Today it was 92 - it’s only June!
